About Me

Dave

My name is Dave but I also go by the handle QueryQuokka.

This is my personal blog called Rapha' (רָפָא). Rapha' is a Biblical Hebrew word that means 'to heal'.

A little bit about me: I am a husband and a dad. We live in prairie country near the beautiful Canadian Rockies. I'm a proud Australian who ironically became a Canadian on Australia Day a few years back. I'm a fan of alt rock, some good grub (food), the occasional whiskey, open source technology & sports. Once upon a time, I was a voracious reader and I hope that I can return to my love of literature.

I am also a believer in Jesus Christ who has been graciously redeemed. More than anything else in my life, this fact defines who I am.

I studied Hebrew and archaeology at university, was a youth pastor in a couple of churches, and worked as a youth worker/food services manager for a social non-profit that helps at-risk kids. Most recently, I have been a stay at home dad while career transitioning.

I hope to transition into cyber security. I recently finished a 10 month program in cyber security at a local university. Besides that, I have been working on gaining skills (and certs) in SysAdmin, Kubernetes, Data Analytics and Privacy. I am very passionate about the intersection of privacy and technology. However, I am more of a 'privacy-conscious pragmatist' than a Luddite in this area.

Sshh! Don't tell anyone but I actually find privacy laws interesting.

This blog was created to document a much needed healing process, my career transition and some other topics that are very close to my heart. This post outlines the history behind this blog and what these topics are.

The following links will also serve as an “index” to the various posts written on each topic:
